David Wheeler was recently awarded the Veitch Memorial Medal (one of the Royal Horticultural Society’s highest accolades) for 'his outstanding contribution to the advancement and improvement of the science and practice of horticulture’. The gold medal was presented in July 2009 in recognition of David's work as the founding (and continuing) editor of HORTUS. Eminent recipients of the Veitch Memoral Medal include William Stearn, Frank Kingdon Ward, Augustine Henry, Liberty Hyde Bailey and E. H. Wilson.
